Catalyzes the production of acetyl-CoA. Provides the acetyl-CoA source for histone acetylation in the nucleus. "Aerobic" isozyme of acetyl-coenzyme A synthetase, which supports growth on nonfermentable carbon sources such as glycerol and ethanol.
