ALDH2 Antibody (3D12) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a kappa light chain antibody that detects aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2) in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). ALDH2 (3D12) antibody is available in a non-conjugated form, allowing for versatile experimental use. ALDH2 plays a crucial role in the detoxification of aldehydes, particularly in the metabolism of alcohol-derived acetaldehyde, which is vital for preventing toxic accumulation in the body. This enzyme is predominantly located in the mitochondria, where ALDH2 catalyzes the conversion of acetaldehyde to acetate, a less harmful substance that can be further metabolized for energy. The mitochondrial localization of ALDH2 allows for efficient detoxification within the cellular powerhouse, thereby protecting cells from oxidative stress and damage. Notably, variations in the ALDH2 gene can lead to a deficiency in enzyme activity, which is particularly prevalent in certain populations, such as 50% of Asians, resulting in alcohol intolerance and a reduced risk of alcoholism-related liver disease.
